MONTECATINI TERME, Italy, May 9, 1998 (AP).
Luis Hernandez scored a hat trick Saturday as Mexico
trounced non-qualifier Estonia in a World Cup tune up match.
Mexico, which is training in Italy ahead of France '98, had a clear
technical and athletic superiority throughout the game, which was decided early.
Captain Alberto Garcia Aspe opened the rout with a penalty kick five minutes after kickoff, and Hernandez doubled the advantage in the 10th minute, slotting in a rebound.
Mexico made it 3-0 with five minutes left in the first half, when midfielder Ramon Ramirez set up the first of striker Jaime Ordiales' two goals.
After the break, Hernandez tallied in the 50th,
Ordiales in the 58th, and Hernandez fixed the
final score in the 85th.
The Mexican team arrived in Italy a week ago
and has been training at the Coverciano training
site outside Florence.
Coach Tito De la Puente's side has remaining
warm-up games planned against
second-division club Venezia on May 13 and
Romania's Steaua Bucharest on May 16.
