McCarthy, one of several new additions to South Africa's national side, repeatedly cut through the Brave Warriors' defenders and slammed home four goals.

Namibia's Brave Warriors replied only once in the game played in Burkina Faso's second city, Bobo Dioulasso.

McCarthy, who scored all of his goals in the first half, opened the floodgates by driving in a cross from mid fielder Helman Mkhahlele in the 9th minute.

Three minutes later the Dutch-based player latched onto a loose ball inside the goal box and made the score 2-0.

McCarthy scored another two swift goals at 19 and 20 minutes - the first on a pass from John "Shoes" Moshoeu, who dribbled confidently past several defenders.

Simon Vutoni ruined South Africa's shutout bid with a long range shot in the 68 minute that made the score 4-1.

South Africa, which won the 1996 African Cup, will play the top-placed finisher in Group D -- likely Egypt or Morocco -- in this year's quarterfinals.
