1/8 Final - Chile
Chile's coach says he'll quit
PARIS, June 30, 1998 - (Reuters)

Chile's coach Nelson Acosta said on Saturday, shortly after his side had been put out of the World Cup by Brazil, that he would leave the job at the end of the year.

Acosta, who led Chile to the World Cup finals for the first time in 16 years, has criticized the organization of soccer at home, saying it did not allow the development of a truly competitive national side.

"There are people who are going to say, fine, that's good, we can go on like this for another 16 years, doing the same things," he said.

"Well, I'm not available for that, to keep on and not have the possibility of making progress, or at least making the attempt. I've said that I will finish on Dec. 31."
